List of the twelve Jyotirlingas in India

In Hinduism, Twelve (12) temples called Jyotirlingas are dedicated to Lord Shiva. Also Called as  Jyotirlinga,  Jyotirling  or  Jyotirlingam the literal meaning of the word is :  Jyoti means ‘radiance’ and lingam the ‘mark or sign’ of Shiva, Jyotir Lingam thus means  The Radiant sign of  Almighty.

It is believed that Lord Shiva first manifested himself as a Jyotirlinga on the night of the Aridra Nakshatra

(द्वादश ज्योतिर्लिंग स्तोत्रम् /Dvādaśa Jyotirliṅga Stotram) describes the 12 Jyotirlingas:

Saurashtra Somnatham Cha Shrishaile Mallikarjunam ||
Ujjainyam Mahakalomkare Mammaleshwaram ||
Parlyam Vaijnatham Cha Dakinyam Bheem Shankaram ||
Setu Bandhe Tu Ramesham Nagesham Daruka Vane ||

Himalaye Tu Kedaram Ghurmesham Cha Shivalaye ||
Aetani Jyotirlingani Sayam Prataha Pathennaraha ||
