Mystery spot or Supernatural phenomenon, Gravity Hills are clear & present Natural sites which produces an optical illusion of a very slightly downhill slope looks opposite i.e. an upward slope.
As quoted by Science Daily “Objects such as cars left on neutral supposedly roll uphill, driven by unknown forces and against the force of gravity. Physicists say — and GPS measurements confirm — that the effects are illusions caused by the landscape. The position of trees and slopes of nearby scenery, or a curvy horizon line, can blend to trick the eye so that what looks uphill is actually downhill.”
Nestled in the lap of snow caped Himalayan ranges and silver valleys, Ladakh in India has a Magnetic hill which is alleged to have magnetic properties to pull a vehicle moves up a steep hill even with their ignition off. The Magnetic hill or Gravity Hill is Situated at a distance of 30 km from the capital city Leh, this spot defies gravity. It is located on the Leh-Kargil-Baltik national highway, at a height of 14,000 feet above sea level.
The hill is alleged to have magnetic properties strong enough to pull cars uphill and force passing aircraft to increase their altitude in order to escape magnetic interference. In reality, the effect is an optical illusion and there is no magnetic disturbance in the area at all.
The magnetic power here can be experienced by switching off the vehicle at a certain spot here. People notice the vehicle moving up the hill in no time at a speed of about 20 km/hr. The experience is also termed as Himalayan wonder & even while flying around this region, one can feel the pull of magnetic field.
The area has become a popular sight seeing place also because of the sikh Gurudwara near the hill which is maintained by the Indian Army. Guru Nanak Dev, the first of the ten Gurus of Sikhism had meditated near this hill in the 17th century. The Magnetic wonder combined with religious sentiments makes this place a must visit while travelling to Ladakh.
