World Heritage Sites in India

India is a country which has been blessed with the natural beauty as well as the cultural heritage. All parts of this country have its own heritage, customs and traditions. UNESCO, being an international agency of United Nations, strives to preserve and conserve the heritage and natural beauty of any country so as to promote Education, Science and culture.

From the year 1983, India has got 30 properties which have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Out of these, 24 have been characterised as Cultural Heritage sites and 6 are characterised as Natural Heritage sites. These all properties are marvels of this great land and India has submitted 33 more properties to be included in this esteem list.

You have Caves to Mountains, Sanctuaries to Buddhist Monuments in this list. Two sites out of these 30 have been earlier added into World Heritage in Danger List – Manas Wildlife Sanctuary and Hampi. However, with the great conservation efforts; both the sites have been removed from danger list and now, No World Heritage site from India is in this list. would like to express its gratitude towards Archaeological Survey of India, the premier Government agency; for protecting, conserving, maintenance and doing archaeological research for protection of our national treasures.

Travelling to these places, would not only make us proud, as an Indian and of its culture but it also make us proud of the vast history of archaeological marvels of our country. However, Preserving and maintenance of these properties lies with us as a responsible citizen too.

In the end, we would like to stress here the moral responsibility of every proud citizen of India to conserve and maintain these national treasures and project clean image of the Country.
